Change of Focus

With the originators permission, I am going to kind of change this blog for a short time and re-direct it to a more pressing occurance--like something going on in January--oh yea, Misti's wedding. I thought for the time we could use this blog to keep up on the plans of the families and see if we can get them coordinated. We could also use it to plan the getting together and what everyone wants to do, like I think at one time Tish threw out the idea of a New Years Eve party in Northern Idaho with us all...So, like the vacation ideas, I thought maybe we could do our wedding time ideas on here. If you like it, add. If not, then just peruse.

Busy, Busy, Busy...

Hello All,
We have had some great ideas for the upcoming vacation in 2010. Thanks to all that contibuted ideas. It isn't too late to post other ideas - but I would like to get a location decided by the middle of next month.

The reason for this is for planning and more importantly getting reservations especially for a group this large. That is why I am pushing gently.

I have been doing some thinking on the time of the year we are going to do this trip. It would of course work a bit better to do something during the summer. But realizing that we (Joyce and I) are the only ones with school-aged kids. We can be flexible on time. Just an idea - we went to Disneyland last year for Christmas and had a great time.

We also do not have to do the trip in 2010 we could wait a year. This will give Misti and Kevin time to recoup financially from their wedding. As well as letting Letisha and Aaron's twins get a bit older. On our front we would have time to recoup financially from buying our house and all the travel we need to do to Idaho in the next 6 months including Grandma Jensen's 90th in April. We can still plan something for the summer of next year. I am just thowing out another option.

With all that said, let's still decide a location and then worry about the when later.

As far as when to go...

• Misti and Kevin need it late enough in the year to save up money from their matrimonial spending spree (and each of us from flying to Moscow for the wedding).
• It probably needs to be in the summertime since all our school breaks never match up.
• Mom and Lorin have a break from their temple work in the middle of both February and August.

So....August then?

Beach house!

I thought of another idea (and it's a good one).

On vacation rentals by owner dot com (the same place Joyce found our Vegas rental, I think) you can also find houses to rent right on the beach. I found this one in Corpus Christi, Texas:

I know Texas is a place Joyce's family has already been, but I think that just makes them perfect hosts and hostesses!

We could all fly in to San Antonio. From there it is roughly a 2 hour drive to the beach. If we got the house pictured, it sleeps up to 21 in 3 separate condos; a 1 bedroom, a 2 bedroom, and a 3 bedroom.

We could spend our time on the beach at the house, or drive up to San Antonio where the Watts could show us Sea World or the Alamo. Also, there are water sports we could do at the beach, such as rent jet skis.

I think this vacation plan has something for everyone and is a way for us to spend time as a family. Also I think it'll be somewhat affordable.

Water Going Up?!

So, I finally became a contributor to the vacation blog and while doing that I read Kevin Joyce's entry about Schlittenburgen?, Schlakenbaken?, ... the water park in Texas. He says that he has actually been there and that it is fantastic. I think an exact quote was that "it's like Disneyland except with water" oh, and that there is a water slide where you actually go up at one point (like in a rollercoaster). Anyway I just thought I'd share that that has his vote.

Another Idea

Hey out there,
The kids were walking out of the mall the other day into the heat and started talking about how fun it would be to go to a water park for our family thing next year. There is one in Texas called Schliterbaun. Don't know if you've heard of it, but it looks fun. Also, in San Antonio, we have an amusement park, and Sea World and it is 3 hours away from the Gulf of Mexico.
Just some more thoughts...

Hello Everyone and Welcome to the Project 2010 - Vacation blog

If you received an email inviting you to this blog then you are in the right location. You will be able to post comments, author blogs, and maybe other things that I am leaving out. Those invited are also the only people that can get into this blog.

The purpose of this blog is to plan the next Family Vacation. Joyce and I will be happy to take the lead on this but we ask your help. We would like to know several things about what you have in mind for the vacation.

The reason we ask this is because some have quite young children, others have older children, and of course others have no kids - so we want to make sure we keep everyone in mind. There is also the concern about expense and location.

With that said I propose we consider location first. So where do we want to go?
